The principal object of the Society is to stimulate and maintain public interest in local history, archaeology and architecture in and around Andover. It does this in particular by organising meetings, lectures and other activities, by arranging for the safeguarding of local archaeological and historical material of all kinds, and by publishing the results of its studies and research.

Meetings are usually held in the Meeting Room at the Andover Museum at 7.30pm on the fourth Friday of the month except in July, August and December. In June there is usually a guided walk around a local village to see points of interest and learn more of its background.

In addition to the monthly meetings, the Society sponsors the annual Dacre Lecture which is open to the public in one of the town venues. This is held in honour of the late Max Dacre and his work on the archeaology of the area.
